Helix in HA.....not impressed

Hi Guys,

Was imaging the Helix in HA to see how far I could go....I think the ISO was too high with too long of exposures....I am not sure...I was expecting more with the same exposure time of my recent colour Helix but was expecting to see more of the outer ring with 20 Minute exposures F8.

Anyway here it is....5 x 20 minute guided exposure ISO1600 sensor temp 3°c
HA 45NM filter

happy with the guiding for such long exposures.
Look no defraction spikes...lol

I can see 2 faint arcs visable to the lower left of the image. Are they what you were going for?
It's a good pic to me.

, what are you complaining about, thats a top shot! You can try to combine the images to make a composite image

. because you are imaging in the narrow band it will take much longer that you expect, Scott did tell me that and the images he has been doing is proof as well. but mate, look at the detail in that - yes takes longer but you are getting to the wow factor

I like the detail the picture shows. very good shot from what I can see and i can only imagine that the ful res one would be even sweeter.

Correct Jenette.....that outer ring extend's a lot further then what I captured....it is very faint but can be captured with long exposures.

Nothing wrong with that shot, Plenty of inner detail and the arc is definately visible. Doing nice long 20 minute exposures too, looks like the systems guiding nicely.
Could try repeating them at, say, ISO 400 instead. Do you do darks now you have the cooled camera?

Yep still do darks....I need to get rid of the odd hot pixel and amp glow as much as possible.

I am trying lower ISO's as we speak.
