OK, in the vein of jjjnettie's covers thread and Suzy's Pink thread.
Post up your top drummer of all time with a link.
I have to go with two myself. Both brilliant in different ways IMO.
Bill Bruford with Yes, the first couple of minutes give you the general idea although it does go on for the rest of the track although generally in a more subtle vein.
This is just a bit of a drumming wank-fest, but if you listen to early Anthrax, such as 'Fistfull of Metal' or 'Spreading the Disease', and especially if you listen to S.O.D.'s 'Speak English or Die' (which won't appeal to many), you can hear how versatile he is. Charlie's blast beats in S.O.D.'s 'Milk' are mind blowing.
My mate Jac Kreemers is the Drummer with Madder Lake and he is writing a book of Drummer Jokes
He says that he has heard so many in his Drumming career of more than 40 years that he just had to put them in a book.
And to show that he is really a drummer, I asked Jac about 2 years back if he is still writing his Drummer Joke book.
His reply was "what Drummer Joke book"
Then about 20 minutes later he says "ahhh, the Drummer Joke book I was writing. Yeah I remember. . ummm . . . where is it?"
but there's so many great drummers...from the old school dudes above through to those mental metal masters who are absolute machines!!!
Viva la beat!
Who would have though there was that much in Rosanna? Interesting to see musicians break stuff down that way, had to go and listen to it again off the album (Still listening)
A very interesting one in the same vein is on one of the Queen DVD's and dealt with composing Bohemian Rhapsody, that was one insanely complex piece of music!
I am glad this went somewhere, being largely a newbie on this forum I half expected to get up this morning and find my second post was still the last.
