canon 300D at prime focus of PST.short (1/2000 sec ) for surface detail combined with long (1/50 sec -I think, Ive forgotten!) for the proms

am afraid I still havent got either the solar image acquisition or the processing squared away yet..would appreciate any comments suggestions and or tips

Wow - that looks really, really eerie, filling my 1600x1200 display. The quality and resolution is incredible even at that size. Great image and in this case, most certainly better late than never!

Cheers

Dennis

well I am glad someone liked the image

..the scope was a PST on a CG5 mount

the camera was a Canon 300D at prime focus

the technique is pretty standadard-a short-as I said 1/2000 sec image for the surface and a longer (1/30 to 1/50 sec) for the proms and then combine in Photoshop

Did some high pass filters in photoshop to get more detail

image would possibly have benefitted from some doconvolution before the high pass filter technique, but I cant seem to get LR deconvolution to work properly in IRIS and I don't have other software to do this

That's pretty darn good, Seeker! You're ahead of me in the solar imaging stakes! I too struggle with imaging, but like you I am having a ball with the PST visually.

Was going to get it out today but it's clouded over...

I hope you don't mind, Seeker.

I had a play with your image. It's a beauty BTW!

I use the magnetic lasso in Photoshop CS2 to select the solar disc, and boosted the levels in the solar disc only so the proms aren't burnt out.

I hope you like it.

Excellent Narayan! Have you got the raw shot that I can have a play with? Either email it to me, or I can give you the details for the IIS FTP space.

here is another image of AR 0904 imaged way back on 12 august but only processed recently.this was with a Toucam at prime focus-again a composite of a short(for surface detail) and a longer (for the prom).
Some agressive highpass filter technique applied.

was going to do some solar imaging today but never got around to it-some reasonable proms but nothing as spectacular as last weekend
