This is terrible news.

A techni-Higgs particle? What? I want to hear a definitive word from Prof Pearlywhites.

I am gobsmacked. I mean, they found this thing just where it was predicted, looking just like it was supposed to, and awarded a Nobel Prize. And now it might be evidence of a Deluxe Theory? I am reeling. I depend on these eggheads to tell me what is the shape of the Cosmos, and now this?

Seriously, while all this kerfuffle is quite the norm for leading edge research, I do like very much the thought that there might be elemental particles "smaller" than the Higgs Boson. After all, what is a "particle"? An area of influence, an intersection of forces, or what? The Cosmos is vast, so why not go as far in the opposite direction of scale?

I'm 67 now, and my only worry is dying before there is a bit of resolution in all this. I really want to know.

I think we should wait for the dust to settle...remember the faster than light nutrinoes..we all got excited only to find it was not on.

How are you doing? I think of you as one of the old hard doers around here. All you hard doers put up hands.

I did know what you meant. We are on IIS in a different little Cosmos of our own in a small way. I have a picture of us all paying careful, even frantic attention to developments, trying to sort it all out before we snuff.

I read this with fascination the other day. I agree strongly with this bloke Odenwald.

I've long thought that there is a sort of quarantine implied on us by the terrific vastness of the Cosmos.

I agree also here that there is no special reason why all humanity would try to ensure the survival of an elite few (and not themselves) on a voyage to Gliese 581 or somewhere. We would all be too busy eating Big Macs. Seriously would you vote for that?

The immense effort, technology, and expense implied in interstellar travel could as well be applied to a self sustaining colony on Mars, or Europa. I really believe that is doable, desirable, and probable. I'll stay here though, sorry.

Just read 'Particle at the end of the universe" that makes the case for finding the thing really conclusive. So I'm very sceptical about this article.

Thanks Simon I have not read it but a goggle gives a bit of an idea.
In the deluxe model all particles have mass so there is no need for a higgs...
It is a challenge sorting thru science news and although I deplore sensationalism must admit it's benefit is the discussions news often generates..eg recent no black hole etc that caused me to read more.

I can see you are interested in science.
Rather than linking to other places would it not be better to explain what you are talking about in a thread here.

For example this thread relates to the higgs bosen so you could add to the discussion about the higgs bosen.

Also we need to respect the position of mainstream science rather than present ideas that may confuse many readers trying to understand science .

This forum should not be used for self promotion of ones ideas and I am sure all forum members would agree upon that...Good luck with your work outside of here.

Perhaps write a book and have it read by people qualified to comment.
Raising money for projects is difficult unless there is a return for investors.
But a book may enable you to get support.
All I can offer is these words..If this work is your passion don't give up.

well, there is probably not much publicity to be had from agreeing with previous results . However, even the CERN guys are not claiming to have it all tidied away yet - watch this space http://home.web.cern.ch/about/update...iscovered-2012

Universe Today has an article by Elizabeth Howell on the same topic.

The energy band where the Higgs contender was detected is pretty near one of the many the Techni particles.

I suspect that finer measurements may sort out the problem. But it's a great time to be alive. So many answers coming so fast.

Can you find them in every atom..I don't know how they...give particles mass.
