Fine tunning

What are the top 10 ways of tuning a Cellestron 130mm Newtonian GEM? One brilliant suggestion made in the preceding beginners forum is to extend the tube with a "shade" preventing stray light bouncing down the very poorly baffled tube. I am having a lot of trouble with the GEM, it's sort of floppy and is extremely difficult to get into balance. All suggesting are very welcome and I am heading down to Bunnings tomorrow morning to find something that I can use to extend the OTA tube.
