G'day everyone, this was a bit of a try it and see what happens shot. I have always wanted to shoot the rosette but seem to miss it every year. This morning just before shooting my flats and closing up everything for the day I took this. With the moon and the rising sun, I wasn't sure how it would turn out. Well it definitely needs more data, (had to clip the black here a smidge), but on the whole I think it turned out ok. Will certainly be adding to this if I am lucky enough to get some more this year.
3 x 300 sec @ ISO 1600, with the gear in my signature. As always, comments and advice welcome. Thanks for looking.
You've got some excellent detail and color in that frame Rex...
If only I could do as good as that with my CCD set up... going thru the learning process of using it as well as post processing atm and a bit of a challenge at that for this ol geyser
Great job Rex. I'm itching to have a go at it, but will have to take a
heck of a lot of subs, as my camera is unmodded.

Thanks Rocky. I think it's a steep learning curve no matter how old you are mate. Especially when you throw in some new gear, as you have done. It's amazing how long it takes some times to get used to the differences of new equipment compared to your old. Keep at it mate, I'm sure you will get there.

Thanks Bruce. It turned out far better than I thought it would, even though I had to clip it a little to get some of the detail to come out. Nothing more data won't fix!

Not sure what you mean about a good mod Pat, it's the same filter removal that everyone does to mod the camera's as far as I am aware anyway. Yeah there is heaps of info online about doing it, so I did it myself. I only removed one filter I left the UV/IR filter in. I could have removed it because I use a CLS CCD clip filter which cuts the uv/ir anyway, but at the time I didn't have the CLS so I left it in.
yes my brother is a lot more technically minded than myself rex and he has successfully modded a 30d and a 40d
i have a 60da, however the self modded pictures are a lot different to my 60da pics so i am not sure if there are different levels of modification?

Very beautiful image, Rex. Really ! Very good shape of stars and colors, without red contamination. Many details of nebula. You have quite complete image of the rose.
I tryed it, but my set can not do it well. The image is very small in FOV. To get some image alike this yours I will need to make a big mosaic, with many photos from many parts !
I can not use reduction because of the focal point.

Oh now I understand Pat, your 60da has a filter in it from the factory, that allows a wider range of wavelengths through it than the standard one does. Some model when you modify them you need to replace the filter either with a clear glass or a similar filter to what yours has in it or the autofocus won't work any more. The 1100D however doesn't need the filter to be replaced so when I modded it I removed the filter and didn't replace it. I guess theoretically that will allow all wavelengths through except those the the UV/IR filter cut out. Hope that helps.

Thanks Jorge, one of the advantages of having an f4 scope I suppose, although that has it's limitations too when I want to image something small.
That's really impressive Rex. Beautiful processing again - you've pulled the most you possible could out of 3 solid subs but not over processed it.
I think Kevin said in your NGC 253 post - you're going toe-to-toe with the big boys (and girls) in the Deep Space forum now. Please don't be upset at that statement. I think everyone in this forum feels proud when one of us really gets the art nailed and could confidently post in that rather awe-inspiring forum.

Thanks very much Cam, and as I said to Kevin, I'm not upset at all, and I am glad for the encouragement. I will however, definitely have a good look at each image before I post in future. I mean after all the goal is to eventually be posting all my images in the main forum, so now that I am getting an idea of how to get the best out of them, seems appropriate to post them in there when they turn out well. Thanks again for the encouragement and the confidence boost.
