Celestron Nexstar SLT go-to alt-az mount

For sale to any interested buyers is my Celestron Nexstar 80SLT kit that I bought in 2009 - $300 or near offer.

This is a 80mm f11 refractor - as new, still wrapped - never seen the light of day/night, ok - unused - focal length is 900mm.

The Nexstar mount is an computerized alt-az, and is what I had used with my 90mm Maksutov on it - for viewing and imaging solar eclipses from my home. Hence the mount is used infrequently, never travelled - works fine and the hand controller has been updated with the latest firmware. I have the original box but due to its size (length), would probably suit a local buyer who can pick it up.

I am now prepared to sell the mount and OTA separately.

The Nexstar SLT go-to mount with tripod and hand controller, manual & cd's - $230 plus shipping. This will be in the big box - weighs about 7kg.

The OTA with Starpointer finder, diagonal, 9mm & 25mm eyepieces - $100 SOLD - weighs about 3kg, will be securely packed.

-John

Just BTW, these are a great scope to use for a PST upgrade to 80mm.

Peter, thanks for this information - good to know.

If anyone is interested in just the OTA, make me an offer.

More information - will sell separately!

See original post - will now sell separately.

The OTA comes with a Starpointer finder - basically a red dot finder. There is a 1.25" diagonal and two eyepieces - 9mm and 25mm. Also the OTA comes with a dovetail mounted on the side. $100 plus shipping.

The SLT go-to mount - firmware on the hand controller was updated to 4.21 SLT_LCM in January 2013 which was actually the last time I used the mount. The motor controller firmware was updated at the same time to 5.18. Including tripod - $230 plus shipping.

Also included with the mount is the Celestron version of The Sky Level 1 cd, plus a Nexstar observer cd.

To answer a question - my 90mm Mak with DSLR would only weigh about 3kg at the most - it is possible that the mount could handle more as long as it is evenly balanced. Also I believe that this is the same mount that is used in the Nexstar 102SLT where the OTA is 5kg or so, but don't quote me on this.

Anyone want a good donor scope for PST upgrade?

Will sell separately - great for PST upgrade.

Use the OTA as a guidescope for big telescopes.

How can it be used for a PST upgrade?

Stefan,

Hi. I am told that there are two PST modifications that are possible.

Stage 1 is where the objective on the PST is replaced with a larger aperture (fitted with an energy rejection filter, ERF).

Stage 2 is where the etalon is removed from the PST and re-mounted in a larger scope. This usually also requires the purchase of a larger blocking filter which can be expensive.

In both cases the recommended donor scope is an f10 refractor.

This information comes from Merlin66. The ota here is f11 which is probably better - as the recommendation is for a minimum of f10. You can contact him for information on the PST Stage 1 and Stage 2 mods. I am interested in doing this, but don't have a PST.

-John

P.S. As I understand it, even this achromatic refractor would perform similar to ED refractors since the PST is only looking at a very small bandwidth.

It is pretty easy, you get a suitable sized ERF, remove the 'gold tube' from your PST, and mount the rest behind the 80mm scope and the ERF.

I did this with this exact scope as a donor, and the increase in detail was incredible. Highly recommended.
