Televue nagler Type 1 4.8mm

I have recently re-kindled my interest in Astronomy and have purchased a 14" f4.5 Goto Dob. It came with 2 plossl eyepieces and I am looking to upgrade within a reasonable budget.

I have found a well looked after nagler type 1 4.8mm eyepiece for sale and was wondering 2 things:

1. is this suitable for a fast scope;
2. what would be a reasonable price for the second hand eyepiece.

The eyepiece is in good condition (in box etc).

Thanks

its suitable for a fast scope (that was nagler's aim), they usually go somewhere around 125, but upto 150

id be more concerned of the mag it will generate of 300x, your scope will have to be well cooled & seeing good to use this mag, id have thought 200-230x will be more usable on most nights -you may get more use out of a 7mm ep (nagler type 1 7mm)

welcome Duncan

As daniel mentions 300 x is often not usable, in my 12 " ,(similar focal length)
to your 14 ",I rarely use a 5mm eyepiece not you won't ever, just most of the time seeing dosn't support its use that often.

My most used magnifcation is around 115 x 13/14 mm
theres some decent quality widefields around this F//L that wont break the bank or conversely spending big this is where I'd look .

I find the highest power I regularly get use with around our neck of woods is
170x 8.8 mm, below yeah a bit , and i have a couple of not to pricey high power eyepieces to fiill that gap but honestly don't use em to much .

best wishes ,, the plossls arn't to shabby for now either,, good luck .
