More data more detail the Helix.

Hi,

I have 4 hours data on the Helix, certainly made a difference to the detail.
I was able to push the processing more, especially the unsharp masking.
As I said in my previous post, this is about the detail in the eye and not the outer loop.
I'll get some more data, hopefully on the weekend, but it won't make any difference to the loop.

Here's a link to my previous 2 hour image.

Unmodded canon 1100D, baader type III coma corrector.

48 x 5 minute subs, ISO 1600.
Stacked in DSS, processed in PS7 and Cs2.

Cheers,

Justin.

Nice Justin
I'm always amazed by what you and a few others (nebulosity) can do with modest gear
Goes to show you don't need to spend $20k

Thanks David!

I must admit I'm enjoying the challenge of how much I can squeeze out of pretty standard gear.

There's some nice detail in the core now. How many hours do you reckon the outer loop will need?

That's a slippery slope! There's lots of faint structures around the Helix and you can easily get carried away

Hi Kevin,

As rick has stated it's a slippery slope.

Not really concerned in getting the outer loop, a tall order with an unmodded camera.
I just want as much detail as I can get in the Helix.

Thanks Marc!

The Helix sure is dynamic, just playing with the RGB channels gives it vastly different appearance.

Cheers,

Justin.

Thanks Ray!

Managed another two hours last night, damn cold with ice on the outside and inside of the dome.

Cheers,

Justin.

Sounds like you don't need that cooler box anymore then. Best send it to me.

A bit too cold for me Justin. And winter is showing signs of leaving here in the tropics. Was imaging at sunset with temps at 23C. I could see bad thermal noise on all the subs.

Yep, no cooler required at the moment.
Unfortunately the cooler is only designed for canon's.

I see it's very dry and toasty in your neck of the woods, not much good for imaging.

Cheers,
