I am offering up my Bresser Messier AR102S (OTA) to a new owner. This is the short version (600mm focal length, F5.9) and a great little wide field scope. Yes it's an Achromatic and there will be some CA on bright objects like the moon and planets but I have run the Baader Semi-APO filter on it and the reduction is significant. It is a good DSO wide field where CA is not an issue. I have used it for imaging with my DSLR and even had my guidescope on it on the NEQ6pro mount. It is a relatively fast scope at F 5.9 and this will reduce exposure times for unguided mounts. When used with a Baader Safety film solar filter it is a great white light solar scope.
It's a good Grab and Go scope when coupled with a mount like the Vixen Porta II where I normally have it. It is only about six months old and I am selling it to make room for other equipment.
It's in good condition as shown in the photos, and I am throwing in two Bresser eyepieces (26mm and 15mm) as shown.
Not normally available in Australia through the local resellers, and now rebadged as a Comet scope in Europe, this was a private import from Bresser Meade EU, and thus is somewhat unique locally. The Bresser AR series scopes are made in the same factory as the Explore Scientific AR series scopes.
6x30 straight through viewfinder; optimized finder socket for comfortable use
31.7mm (1.25") diagonal mirror; Cast alloy cradle rings with handle and integrated piggyback camera holder (1/4 thread)
Dovetail plate with stainless steel rail;
50,8mm (2") to 31,7mm (1.25") adapter with integrated T2 thread (T2-adapter ring for your camera is needed).
Its a good basic scope for beginners, including imaging beginners, and is easy to manage.
I am asking $225 (firm), and you could not get one new for near that price due to shipping charges. I will ship the scope (within Australia) in it's original Meade double carton but shipping charges will be additional and subject to Australia Post quote based on your location. Obviously it can be picked up here at Lake Macquarie NSW without additional charge.
Brett its a single speed rack and pinion, however it should accept any of the aftermarket focusers suitable for a Synta style scope. It has the three holes at 120 degrees. I have not removed the focuser but did look into putting on a GSO focuser. The stock focuser certainly handled my Canon DSLR wuthout drama and visually I have been using a heavy 2" GSO diaelectic diagonal and 2" EPs.
