NGC6164 Nebula in NB 17hrs

Hi Guys

NGC6164 in Ha-Ha-synthetic SII-OIII. Click for here for big. Next to no SII, so synthetic SII. Not a lot of exposure, 17 hrs odd, a work in progress. The outer bits are pretty dim, hence the noisy pic. I got thje cone thing in the middle, but the "lobes" are a bit blown, mixed results.

Ha were 40min subs at bin1, Oiii 40min subs at Bin2.

During 3 can processing, thinking, due to lack of SII, “synthetic SII” is required. Life is WAY too short working out how to do that, so work flow was.
Google “Synthetic SII”, get Noel Gabani actions at the top, pay $22, download and install, load Ha and OIII, push do the “make a synthetic green channel” thang. Bingo !!!!. Minimum effort maximum result, bargin!!!!.

Stars are a bit scrappy, bit noisy, not bad depth wise, whatever.

Got a lot of detail in the main neb - what is that anyway - a planetary?

Shockwave should be more blue though as its O111 not Ha. Overall seems a bit too much red. Some nice detail in the shockwave showing.

A different and interesting look, Fred. I'm working on a bi-colour HaOIIIOIII version and also experimenting with some different ideas for a synthetic third colour but none of them have looked like that. Look forward to your completed version...

It's a bipolar emission nebula. The star at the centre, HD 148937, is believed to be at least a triple star system. It includes a short-lived, highly luminous O7 type star of about 40 solar masses. The material in the nebula was ejected from the poles of this star in several bursts beginning about 4,000 years ago.

Thanks Greg, yes, there is a lot of OIII and its not showing much, no fiddling will fix it. The action creating Green is a bit odd actually, would have thought red from OIII and Ha would have been more logical, for Hubble pallete. Not overly happy with so much red myself.

Thanks Rick. Interesting you going for that pallete too,mmmm. I tried to use synthetic SII for Red, with a bit of basic fiddling, it just didnt look right. Ha RGB seems popular with other samples Ive seen, maybe that works best.

Heaps of detail in the nebula Fred. I have always found this nebula to be very fascinating. Are you doing any SII at all for this image?
