LMC @ 40mm

Well I'm not feeling well today so am stuck inside. I managed to find some DSLR shots I haven't processed yet so thought I'd give'm a shot.

LMC:

Taken back in March this year. 20 x 300 seconds exposure @ 400 ASA. I have the usual problem of no red/pink with the un-modified 350D.

I'm quite pleased with the results. I'd only had the 350D for a couple of weeks at the time.

Now if only I was well, and the weather would clear, I could get some more shots. It's been 2 weeks of clouds and rain.

Roger.

Hi Roger,

very nice image of LMC and surrounds. That lens performs well.

Get well soon.

Really nice widefield. Shows a lot of detail and the very dim nebulosity even at this focal length. Was it from a dark sky site? If not were any filters used? They both show me how much I miss with the 300mm lens. Looks like I need to do a mosaic.

Thanks everyone..

Bert, reasonably dark - about 2 hours from Perth where you can still see the glow of Perth on the north-west horizon extending up perhaps 30 degrees. I'd rate it about 8/10 in the darkness stakes. The only filter was the minus-uv that I always forget to take off the lens for astro shots (the standard type used for daytime photography and protecting good lenses).

Roger.

Darn Rog, now everyone will want one of those lenses. I too have one, and it is a cracker. That and the 70-200 f4L. Ideal for astro as well as daytime.
