ImagingMap

Very likely your image acquisition software will have a mapping feature that lets you plot and remember the position of a few stars in your camera's on-screen output so that you can re-point your camera at exactly the same place when taking further exposures at a later time. But if it doesn't or if you would like to try an alternative program I've created ImagingMap which can be used with any acquisition software. Perhaps its main point of difference is that it lets you add captions to your plots which can help you remember which star each plot refers to. You'll find it at http://davesastrotools.weebly.com

My thanks to early users who reported teething issues. Apologies to visitors to the website who found that the application had been temporarily withdrawn for updating. All issues now resolved and the updated application is now available for download.

Recent feedback includes a suggestion that allowance be made for 180 degree rotation of an imaging map to allow the map to be used for the same target object either side of a meridian flip without the need to rotate the imaging camera by 180 degrees. Presumably the resulting images are themselves rotated as necessary so that they all end up with the same orientation. This seems to be a sensible feature which has now been added to the application and the updated version is now available for download. If you have already downloaded a copy you may want to consider downloading the new version.
