Flow

Managed to put daytime issues aside last night to get out under the stars again. When the moon is reasonably full I tend to do star trails / timelapse more often than not, and this is a location I have been wanting to do one at. The plan was to start the sequence with the valley still in deep shadow and then as the moon rose higher it would reveal the falls more and more. All was going well with the star trail side of things until some cloud started to move through which was still fine for the timelapse sequence, but with the cloud came a wind change and the spray from the falls was suddenly blowing back onto the camera. So that ended the session entirely.

Canon 5D Mk II, 14mm, F/2.8, ISO 800, 200 x 20 second exposures (but I didn't use them all in the final stack due to clouds) Cliff face on the left of the falls light painted with a torch during one of the exposures.

Thank you so much for all the great feedback everyone I really appreciate it. Not sure if I will ever release the timelapse. As I said I had to end it sooner than planned before the falls were fully illuminated. Will try again another moonlit night.

Awesome! I'm yet to find a waterfall down here that isn't totally surrounded by forest. I need to get out more during moonlit nights, I tend to snob our lunar friend a lot! Lovely image

Thank you so much James Last time I was in Tas I checked out a lot of waterfalls with the view to shooting them at night and couldn't find any that were appropriate at that time (but I of course only saw a very small fraction of the total number of falls in the state). I have done a bit of research on some other ones I didn't get around to seeing and there are a few which may have some potential which I will have to check out next time I am in Tas.

What the other guys said There's so much in that shot that keeps me coming back and viewing how the various elements all work together to make it quite a unique image.
