IC 4603 from IISAC

I've got mixed feelings on this one. I'm happy with the target itself but pretty bummed about the strange light streaking across the top left and at the bottom of the field.

The first image is a cropped version and the second is the entire field. The streaking is very faint in all the subs taken across the two nights at IISAC. I cleaned the corrector plate on the scope before the camp and thought I had stuff it but ruled that out as the streaking was not present in my image of Eta Carina taken on the same two nights.

I'm thinking the streaks were caused by Antares? I'm interested on everyone thoughts.

I love all the very wide images of Rho Ophiuchus and thought IISAC would be a great opportunity to shoot some Hyperstar subs on IC4603. Even two minute subs at F2 were pretty faint but I'm happy with what was produced by the set up (apart form the streaks).

49 x 2 minute subs taken with Canon 60Da on C11 Edge HD with Hyperstar lens. Mount CGEM DX .

Processed in Pixinsight

Large crop version
Large full field

Here's a shot of the scope during the session.

Thanks for Looking

Rod

Nice going, Rod! I don't have any direct experience but I have seen people having issues with reflections and stray light on Hyperstar setups. The tolerances on really fast systems are such that it's not surprising if they pose some tuning challenges. Good luck with it. Despite the issues it is still a nice image.

Cheers,
Rick.

Thanks Rick!

I might do some more test shots on it here at home and see if any reflections pop up.

Beautiful colours Rod!

Yep I have trouble with bright stars when they're just out of the field of view.

Cheers,

Justin.

Shame about the streaks but the crop is a great image anyway

an attractive image regardless - alignment and colour look really good.

having a look with a torch may also be a good way to see where any stray reflections are coming from - probing around with a beam of light will soon show any shiny surfaces.

Thanks Ray!

I had a probe around with the torch, but I was mainly concentrating on the corrector for smudges etc. I'll have a deeper look, thanks for the tip.

Rod, the streaks point directly at Antares.
