New Toys

I have some new toys.

They both came in the mail today. A second hand Olympus m.Zuiko 75mm f/1.8 in excellent condition and an SLR Magic 12mm f/1.6 Hyperprime to play with for nightscapes.

The SLR Magic lens is of course manual focus, and the quality is very satisfying out of the box. It is very heavy, smooth and has all the proper hyperfocal markings. How I've missed them...

I have the 75 and 12mm primes from Olympus and find them both to be exceptional for resolution and colour. Enjoy them both but the 75 really deserves its reputation. Love the 12mm for street photography coupled with the tilt touch screen and low noise it's easy to get that discrete image and no one is aware. The 12 has the hyper focal markings which really should be on all the lenses. Funnily the Samyang 7.5 mm Full frame fish eye does have them.

I also have the 17mm f/1.8 m.Zuiko which is a very nice lens too, but it only has half the hyperfocal markings -there's no distance scale on the focus ring. The down side of having auto focus lenses I think.

The 12mm m.Zuiko was on my list to get, but when it comes to nightscapes I'm hoping the extra aperture of the SLR Magic will be noticeable. I couldn't justify a Voigtlander (f/0.95) to myself (not that I've found a real short one either).
