Dark Site Levy?

What else can the politicians tax, perhaps a dark site levy if you choose to leave the city.
What's your ideas for a new tax?

My guess is some form of superannuation levy will cut in later on
and also death duties when that doesnt work.
( eg We think you now have too much super for your needs
and we need it more than you )
That way if you save for your retirement they get it either way
and when you die they get the lot.
By forcing/tricking you into putting money into "locked away" super,
vs under the bed or property etc,
they know exactly where it is and can get it with the press of a button.
It will be too big a pot of money for them to ignore shortly.

An air tax 1 cent per breath, if you don't pay the tax, the Tax department puts a plastic bag over your head with a rubber band to hold it on.

Something that is inevitable is the costs associated with our changing climate...we will have to pay for it or pick up the pieces one way or another.

I'm optimistic that when we reach the point when we collectively realise that it isn't smart to defer the costs associated with fossil fuel energy, we will also stop wasting it on unnecessary lighting.

Please don't turn this into another diatribe on climate change. Most people know Australia is an insignificant player in the global greenhouse gas issue, what we do or don't do will not affect the outcome. Send your concerns to China, India, SE Asia, the US, etc etc.

Watch the budget dismantle all the departments, advisory boards, consultancies, programs, and other leftie jobs associated with anything climate change. We paid for (or rather Labour borrowed money to set all of that up) and now the chickens come home to roost.

The simple answer to all taxation woes is a Graft and corruption tax, big business and the major parties would fill the coffers in no time....

What about a "liar, liar, pants on fire" tax? Politicians can pre-pay for a 10% discount.

Doesnt matter who it is, they are all spending too much.
One side just spends and says "hey, we can live with the debt"
the other spends and then sells the family silver to cover the shortfall.
Net result is an overall loss of value somewhere

If we have a negative trade balance, isnt it all moot???
as money is leaving the country and the ( relative ) tax pie is getting smaller.
I cant currently find more recent data, but looking at this
http://www.dfat.gov.au/trade/export_...ey_issues.html
( end of sect 4 for trade balance ) doesnt give one a good feeling,
for the total country debt, vs "govt" debt.

Inflation can be managed by interst rates or tax. I prefer tax to giving banks more interst.

In countries or states without coal reserves solar power is rapidly coming to the fore. In places with coal vested interests are trying to suppress solar but it is still popular because it actually benefits individual householders.

Within a few years it will be cost effective to have solar panels on the roof, battery storage for night time and an electric car charging from your own solar system (no fuel costs, less maintenance). This prospect has the coal and oil companies and electricity generators/distributors quite worried and their buddies in Canberra are trying to support them.

Don't let political bias blind you to what's good for all of us.

I vote for a tax of a million dollars per lie told in election campaigns.

What else ?

Definitely a "chickens coming home to roost" tax, for when the libs have to fix the financial mess caused by the ALP,

A clean water levy (tax)... we effectively have one already to pay for desalination plant in Sydney,

A clean air tax, probably will happen,

A large family tax, if you have more than 1 child, to offset the future contribution to global warming arising from your offspring, and ideally deter parents from having large families, those with no kids should get a rebate IMHO

A future gas-guzzler tax, to coax the leadfoots out of overpowered vehicles into hybrid or electric vehicles when they become viable;

A large vehicle tax, to persuade buyers of SUV's it's time to downsize, though making car parking spaces smaller would effectively achieve the same;

A toilet tax, based on how many 'loos you have in the house;

An excess shower tax, metered, to wean teenage daughters off 45 minute showers...

Julia Gillard already taxed the air. It's called the Carbon Dioxide Tax.

A Sydney newspaper today provided figures showing that half the families in Australia pay less in income tax than they receive in welfare-that's completely unsustainable.
When my generation raised our families, we received no govt assistance, but over the years, governments of both political persuasions have indulged in blatant vote-buying with middle class welfare.
No need to raise taxes-get rid of middle class welfare.

Small car parks are one of my pet hates. After being on the receiving end of abuse 'cause I touched someone's precious car with my door and after having my commodore wagon covered in door dents I often take up two car parks if they are particularly narrow.

Trying to park Heather's Passat CC in many places is a pain. The front doors are long and very easily bump the car or wall beside you before they open far enough to get out or in. Even though it is bigger my Prado handles small spaces better.

Every time I think about it, I'm shocked all over again at how Australia isn't at the forefront of solar panel technology, manufacture and power generation...I mean, c'mon... away from Sydney it's almost sunny all of the time.

How about we cover up some of those big holes that keep getting dug with solar covers? At least we'd have some underground cities to live in later on
