8 Inch Meade LX90 (Tasmania)

Just a note to let folks know this telescope is for sale in Tasmania. I think delivery and postage is out of the question here so local pickup.

It is circa 2003 and and it can come with a wedge for polar mounting if you choose to set it up as an equatorial mount.

Reason for sale is that I am looking at an upgrade. This telescope would suit reasonably experienced amateur but certainly you would not need advanced skills.

Price $700 ($100 extra with wedge)

Includes 26mm, 12.4mm and 6.4mm Meade plossyls, 1.25inch diagonal and extension for a 2 inch diagonal.
Also comes with a dew cap, Star GPS, dew straps on main scope and finderscope and "Dewnot" controller.

Pretty much you will be set for observing in the damp dewy Tasmanian winter.

Cheers

Michael

Pictures and update

The telescope itself is good. Last night I got great views of Eta Carinae and Tarantula Nebulae especially when I put a UHC filter(not included) on the end of the eyepiece.

However there are two mechanical issues you need to consider if you want to consider a buy here.

When the telescope is clamped on the fork there is a slight amount of slop.
Not enough to completely change the field of view but still a detectable rock. Unit tracks well though inspite of this. I have had this unit setup for astrophotography with a guide scope and counter weights and this didn't seem to effect its performance unless I physically rocked the scope of course. It maybe of course this slight loosening has come about with the extra strain.

One of the tripod legs is slightly deformed and needs gentle but firm persuasion to come out if it has been completely pushed in for storage and transport.

Obviously I don't want to scare folks off here but its a reasonably old scope and I have put it too a fair bit of use.

Cheers

Apologies for mucking about those that have shown interest and thanks too. I have reconsidered the immediate future for this scope and have opted to hang onto it for now.

Cheers

Michael
