NGC6744 - the one that almost got away!

Hi

After the NGC6744 that got away (I forgot to tick the checkbox “Save every image”), here is my second attempt. This one was only 10 exp of 5 mins each (total of 50 mins) and as you can see, the stars are a little pear shaped due to some auto guiding problems I was having at Astrofest.

Celestron C9.25, f6.3 Reducer/Corrector and SBIG ST7E ccd camera. B&W only as I do not (yet) have a colour filter wheel.

Hi Dennis,

very nice image, with fine detail. The SBIGs are in a class of their own when it comes to DSO imageing.

Thanks Mike - I have just edited my original post to clarify that the total exposure time was 50 mins, as it reads like it could have only been 5 mins from the way I had written it....

Nice work Dennis....it's amazing what advice you can get after talking to Paul the G11 Mount....lol

Do you think you will ever go for a filter wheel or just stick with the monochrome.

Hi Tony

I'm not sure what to do; I appear to be at a crossroads right now. You and others on the forum are producing some wonderful images with the modified DSLR's and their mega pixel, one shot colour chips are quite appealing compared to the 765x510 pixel ST7 chip.

I’ll probably hang back a little while yet, as I think my next imaging purchase might be a better webcam, such as the DMK model, as I really enjoy imaging the Moon.

Some way down the track, I would like an SBIG ST8 with a colour filter wheel but that is one heck of an expensive package, so I would need to come into some inheritance money, or win the lotto before I could contemplate that purchase.

I have my ticket. Wht don't you buy a second hand 300D and get that modded. be a nice cheap camera for you to play with. You can get them for around the 550 to 650 mark, and the conversion costs $350 with six months guarantee on that. As you know I am more than pleased
