M16 from Qld Astrofest (Duckadang)

Hi

Here is my attempt at M16 from Camp Duckadang. The image is a little dirty and over processed because I was having some auto guiding problems so I have had to do a lot of work on it.

Taken through the C9.25 using my ST7E and f6.3 reducer/corrector. 40 exposures of 90 secs each. No flat fields or darks were used. What you see are the light frames alone.

Yep certainly looks like a place Dennis from Ork would come from, but its in black and white Dennis, LOL. great stuff, you did remember to click the record button didn't you!

Not sure scott, he was showing me lots of things. He was wearing the shielding from the scope and running a round making funny noises though, so you could say the image was very raw!!!!!!!

Thank you for those nice words, apart from H0ughy I think?

Lee: No colour as I don’t have a colour filter wheel for the ST7E so I’m restricted to B&W.

Scott: No filters used, just a straight forward B&W image through the imaging train of the C9.25, f6.3 focal reducer/corrector and SBIG ST7E.

Images were limited to 90 second exposures due to horrible blooming on the brighter stars. I did not take any darks or flats, as I was going to throw these images away as at the time, I was having some serious auto guiding problems with elongated stars.

I was alluding to your frustration and how you dealt with it. After seeing what you could capture in a short time I was stunned. Given the fact that a few things were not quite right I thought it was an excellent go . But you Ork impressions were so memorable, and keeping warm . I was amazed to see how you were controlling the scope and camera

Thats why I said your images were raw, unprocessed.

Hi H0ughy

Okay – you’ve forced me to fess up, once again.

I was showing Dave how the HW (ST7E) and SW (CCDSoft) worked and in the process, checked the box that says “Save every image” and explained how important this was…….

Later, much later that night, I grabbed 12 x 5 min images of NGC6744 which auto guided beautifully, only that somewhere along the line, I had unchecked the vital checkbox so instead of 12x5=60 mins, all I had was 1x5=5mins.

Now Mr. H0ugh is quite a clever man and brought some good ideas with him from NSW. One was his Poncho – very Mexican Amigo! So, I looked at my TeleGizmo tripod cover and promptly slipped it over my head and voila, I too had a Poncho. However, the cover is silvered and looks quite spacey and as you can all guess, the acerbic comments and cruel wit of the IIS team were given full flow in my direction.

Gee, I hate these confessionals!
