It was bound to happen

The inevitable has happened.
Petra (spacezebra) and myself have been bitten by the dreaded
"aperture fever" bug.
Even though my trusty 8inch lx90 serves me very well, and Petra's 12inch
lightbridge gives her many hours of pleasure, unfortunately we find
ourselves wanting more.
Luckily for us we have been blessed with significant other halves
(xstream and Dave the unbeliever) who are willing to help us through
this dilemma.
The four of us are going to pool our resources and enthusiasm and
hopefully at the end of it come out with a magic scope.
After much research, John has come up with what we think will be
the best way to go.
An f4.5, 20 inch, truss dob with servocat and argo navis.
I don't pretend to be technically minded. So if you have any questions
or any advice, please feel free to direct them to John.
Petra and I wanted you to share in our exciting news.

Will be a modified Obsession design Norm, similar to this with a Mark Suchting mirror.

I'm not sure what they call the design. I just like the idea of the lower profile and less weight. Should make for a more manageable scope particularly for the girls.

Looks more like an ultralight Dob to me. With wheel barrow handles. Great scope though, easy to errect and easy to carry, but would need to be quite rigid to hold a 20" mirror. Good luck with your purchase girls, might show the wife and see if she want to do the same heheheeh.

WOW! That's some serious Glass Anna!!! Congrats on the decision.

Anna & Petra having a peaceful conversation:

"it's staying at my place tonight", "no, it's going to my place tonight!", "oh no, we agreed I get it for a week, then you get it for a day", "WHAT! a day!!!", "I have more room to store it", "no no no, I do, and I'll dust it every day", "yeah but I'll also vacuum the shroud", "well, it's going to my place", "HA! ya think so!!" etc etc etc and the peaceful conversation continues.

Hi BD

Im sure that as soon as our lawyers have drawn up the agreement, and after Anna's people have spoken to my people and have done lunch or what ever it is they do - all will be well .

Anna - quite happy for you to keep the scope at your house.

Yes, guys we taking this obsession with the sky to a whole new level, its about time we got serious.

Great post Anna, looking forward to our many nights, weekends of scope building.

Cheers Petra
