skywatcher v saxon

It's my understanding that these are both made by the same people. Would either be better than the other or are they pretty much the same?

Skywatcher dobs usually have better mirror cells, focusors ect. So they are more expensive.

I reckon SkyWatcher Dobs have better cells but worse focusers and bearings.

If they do indeed use pyrex mirrors I would consider that an advantage in a 12" or bigger scope.

Cheers
Steffen.

From my observations Shywatcher refractors, at least their 6inch acro, had a collimatable lens cell, where the Saxon model i owned did not. A collimatable lens cell is a big plus in my opionion.

I'm hoping to get either an 8" or 10" goto collapsible dob later in the year. The two I was choosing from was skywatcher or Saxon. Apparently Saxon don't make goto so my choice was easy. Now I just need to pick from the 8 or 10. If I was just choosing the non goto, I wouldn't know which way to go.

Dear I In Ser's,

Most interesting commentary guys, and not all that well informed.

Skywatcher and Saxon dobs have their standard tube assemblies made from exactly the same components on the same production line, the OTA's have no variation, they are absolutely identical.

There is not second option for primary cells, as there is only one single version of this for both brand names. I am not sure where the idea of a different primary cell's emanates from, but I assure you as owner of one of Australia's largest telescope supply companies (and dealing with both Skywatcher & Saxon all the time), the two systems are effectively identical.

The only area where there is some minor variation is accessories, so do ask the suppliers the question on these items, as some suppliers to downgrade some accessory product in an effort to achieve a better margin.

Trust this assists.

Thanks Astromelb, i guess my observation error is that the optical tubes i had compared were of different date of manufacture. The most up to date ones have better components.
