I was fiddling around with my recent copernicus shot in psp9, mainly unsharp mask and managed to get a whole lot more detail out of it... tell me what you think.
I think that you should have taken some Flat Fields as well as Dark Frames to subtract from the light frame, thus revealing more signal. Did you subtract the bias? I only ask because the overall image has an old fashioned wood cut look to it?
Under a different Sun angle, it looks almost like Tycho?
the old fashion wood cut may be because i over processed it to brin out some of the finer detail. do you really think taking darks would have helped... I have never heard of anyone doing dark frames for anything but DSO work
why would there be a need to reduce ccd noise from a woodcut picture?
hmm maybe if ving took the picture of the woodcut with a camera though.
dark frames is for noise reduction ving, its used on non-astronomical pictures, just not often though cause in the dark there is more noise! and astronomy is in the dark!
ahh so you are talking about the actual crator but you got a picture of the astronomer copernicus, hahaha, thats a good picture, you got alot of detail
the feature called noise reduction in the settings in lot of dslr's is pretty much automatic dark frames, apprently it dosent work as well as doing it yourself.
But I think i can see the old apollo moon buggy parked there if you look hard enough
