Is it possible to replace the stepper motors of a Eq5 Synta mount with Heq5 motors

Good Day All

Is it possible to replace the stepper motors of a Eq5 Synta mount with Heq5 motors , I have damaged one of the motors , the mount had motors and goto retro fitted.

I am able to source a set of new Heq5 motors (Old Stock)at a very reasonable price compared to the Eq5 motors at the current exchange rate.

Anyone attempted or have experience with any similar replacement ?

I am not sure it can be done Andre , the mounting points on each are totally different and from memory the HEQ5's are physically larger .

Sorry , but have a look at that Vixen duel axis drive system for sale here in the classifieds , it will fit all Vixen SP clones ( like yours ) and a much better made set up .

umm simple answer no, could it be done with a ton of work and building a gearbox and also using a mainboard from a heq5/6 yes.

As the others have said, it would require an complete rebuild to make the motors fit. I have an EQ5 and an HEQ5 sitting in front of me at the moment and the motors mount differently and have different gear train ratios.
Is it the RA or Dec. motor that is damaged, I think I've a spare RA motor for an EQ5 from when I upgraded to Dual Axis Drive several years ago, might take a while to find it though, buried in a box somewhere in the spare room.

I am really struggling to get the RA motor as not many people have them lying around ,and the Rand/Dollar exchange is really killing us here in South Africa.

The Heq5 motors won't work as per previous advice the gear ratios are totally different.
