NGC2070 PI Reprocess

Have spent a pleasant day playing with some old data using PixInsight.
Am suitably impressed with the software. This is my first real attempt to process with PI.

Looking for some constructive feedback on this though.

Details
Basically its NGC2070, the Tarantula Nebula imaged with a Canon 60da and GSO RC8, first lights from when I purchased the scope last year

My own feeling is that its over-smooth so will need to look at how to work with that and I suspect the stars might need to be looked at.Shorter subs for the core would have helped as well.

I would very much appreciate any other feedback or hints on processing.

Basic workflow
Dynamic Crop
DBE
Channel Extraction to create Luminence


Background Neutralisation
Colour Callibration
Atrouswavelet transformation
Multiscale Medium Transform
HST
Repeat for Luminence

LocalHistogramEqualisation (Lum)

Combine L and RGB
Tweak with Curves transformation

Gee David, a bit blown (yes, some shorter subs would help), fuzzy and colour bitonic. Your process seems a bit complicated for the result.

Try these steps for processing DSLR images using PI.

The noise reduction may be a little over the top for the 60Da, especially if you've got a lot a data but I applied each step.

If you have shorter subs and want to use the HDR comp tool, apply dynamic crop and DBE to both the shorter and longer master light images then combine with the HRD tool. Once combined follow the tutorial from the colour calibration step.

EDIT: Ok .... I just saw your post on the PI forum and you've followed the tutorial already, well done

The only thing I do differently is use TGV denoise in place of ACDNR.

That tutorial was great for helping me understand the process flow . I am working my way through some fresh data at the moment and looking at each aspect of the process very carefully. (And that includes setup and data capture..)


Still not sure on the step in that DSLR process requiring you to blur the RGB data though. Will need to read that bit again but am using the CCD now so a different approach again to be learnt I suppose though I guess that may well solve my bitonics issue ;-). I did some test subs on the same object with the CCD back in October and the colours were very different from the Canon.

gotta love this hobby..
