Lunar eclipse 15 April...
Speaking of the moon, any plans to take a small scope to watch the lunar eclipse at moonrise, on 15th April ? I've seen the eclipsed moon rise once before, a long time ago... It's not ideal, but if the weather is kind it could be quite scenic and for the first timers it's something nice.
Sunset in Sydney is at 17:32 pm and the eclipse total phase ends an hour later. A quick check of the map suggests either:
South side:
Somewhere near The Gap, Watsons Bay;
Marine parade, at Maroubra; reasonably high.
On the north side:
Headland park at Freshwater, north end of Manly;
Long Reef, though it means lugging the scope for a 10 minute walk.
Mabel is keen for a look and I'll take the 4" refractor and camera.
Thoughts ?
