Canon 10-22mm VS Tokina 11-16mm

Hi all,

I've been looking into a wide-angle lens for a while and quite a few people have recommended the Tokina 11-16mm. I've seen how pictures come out with it for astro and daytime photography and I like the results.

However, that means I still have a gap in focal length between the wide-angle and the kit lens, which I still use a lot for daytime pics. I've recently seen some nice astro panoramas taken at 20mm with a Nikkor 14-24 (which as far as I can tell is just for Nikon and I have a Canon DSLR).

I'm wondering what people tend to go for when picking a wide-angle. What's the difference (aside from price) between the Tokina and the Canon? And is it worth getting the Canon for the extra focal length or does the Tokina perform better?

I'm still saving up at the moment, so probably won't buy one for a couple more months yet, but I'd like to have some opinions on both these lenses to ponder in the meantime

Thanks!

Tokina!
It's faster (f2.8)- the Canon is f/3.5. It makes a big difference.

You could get the 17-40 to fill the focal length gap - a great lens for daytime use.

Thanks, Mike! Totally missed that detail
