Some Days!
It all started off early last week, had to replace the gutters on our aging home. Got a good quote so the work was duly started and would take a couple of days. No drama until the second day when the guys turned up to complete the job. I opened up the garage to let them use the power only to be confronted by a lot of water on the floor and over my 10" GSO Dob and some on the 16" GSO Dob. It appears a roof tile must have been cracked while they were working up on the roof directly above the scopes and as luck would have it, it rained over night. The water poured down onto the supporting RSJ and then made its way to the ready and waiting scopes below. The 10"'s dust cap was full of water and the mirror and base were soaked. An hour or so later the Dob was stripped, cleaned, put back together and re-collimated. The result, some swelling of the chipboard on the base of both Dobs (surely the manufactures could supply waterproof chipboard even if it is a few dollars more), annoying but not overly noticeable.
Tried out the 10" last night on a lovely clear sky, no problems but looking at the 10" Dob this morning some pesky little possum(s) must have decided to piddle on the base while I took a break. So, out with the disinfectant and deodoriser. I wonder what the next instalment to this saga will be? I thought the little creatures were my friends, I've always been very nice to them.
