canon 300D rebel

I have recently acquired a canon 300d with no software. I have managed to get a 220 volt battery replacer and a card. The camera works well. Is there any way to link it to a computer through it's usb connection?
Has anyone got the address from which the correct software can be down loaded?

Hi Chris.

What you need is Canon's 'EOS Utility'. You might also like Digital Photo Professional(DPP).
These come as part of a software suite they call the 'EOS Digital Solution Disk Software' which comes with a CD/DVD disk when you purchase a new camera.

The software is downloadable, for people to update, but some strange person at Canon made a strange decision that you can't use this downloaded software until you insert your original disk to prove you have a Canon camera, even tho the software can only be used by someone with a Canon camera!

There are workarounds but it was so long ago that I did it that I now can't remember them, sorry. I think it may have been a disk image that I got somewhere and then burned to a DVD. I now have an original that came with my 60Da.

Anyway, a bit of sleuthing on Google for the above should get you there eventually.
Good luck

I recently downloaded the Canon software and was asked for a serial number before it would give me the goods. I used a serial off the lens and went on to have no problems in getting the software.

Thanks guys,

This is what I managed to find. k5109en.zip.
The best that can be done is that the 300D can be read as an external drive and the card contents can be read or deleted. To control imaging you must use a Canon type timer.

Chris,
The USB connection is only good for 30 sec exposures.
I think I'm correct in saying the older (300/350D) cameras only work with PC running XP - doesn't work with win7/8.

Yes, this is 100% correct.

The older models (DIGIC II) camera only works on Windows 32 bits system. If you have W7 or W8 32 bits you can installed the XP/Vista 32 bits drivers from Canon just fine.

However, the 300D is a DIGIC I camera and this will not work for computer assisted shooting.

An intervalometer remote is your only option.
