Polarex/Unitron 75mm f16, Mount/Tripod - PRICE DROP

This is a classic Polarex/Unitron 75mm f16 refractor which also includes a 8x30 finderscope, AZ mount & tripod, 90' diagonal, straight diagonal and set of eyepieces. I believe this site provides some very useful information about these classic 75mm Unitron/Polarex refractors.

http://www.company7.com/library/unit...itron_142.html

The eyepieces appear in excellent condition and come in their own very nice wood case and include 25, 18, 12.5, 9 and 7mm focal lengths. The whole lot is packaged together in two wood cases.

The optics are extremely impressive and I can now appreciate the debate about these classic refractors versus modern ED glass compound refractors. For example, it easily reaches 171x magnification on Jupiter (remember this is a 75mm refractor) and IMO it renders a much better image than a Televue 76 I previously owned.

Please keep in mind this is a classic refractor and is, in my opinion, in good working condition however it does have some signs of wear for its age such as scratches in the white paint on the tube, mount and a small chip on one side of the lens cap. However, there does not appear to be any major dents, cracks etc and IMO it works very nicely.

I would like to see this scope go to someone who is a collector/fan of these classic long fl refractors and accordingly I am prepared to ship it anywhere in Australia (at the buyers expense). Pick-up from Sydney is also very welcome and thus can avoid any shipping costs etc.

Asking $600 for the lot but I will certainly consider a lower offer if you convince me it will go to a good home and someone/persons who might like to restore it.

Please send PMs only and thank you for looking at this listing.

I am both embarrassed while simultaneously extremely appreciative of the advice from another IIS member and Unitron/Polarex expert who has just advised me that these models were only made with a single focuser on the one right side!

So - egg on my face - what I previously described as a missing focuser wheel etc is in fact stock standard how the refractor was actually made and in no way a fault at all!

Too bad I guess if you happen to be left handed

A few inquiries about what I described as a chip in the lens cap so I have specifically taken a picture. It is a small segment about the size of your little finger nail that is missing from one side. There is no other cracks or further damage from it and as far as I can tell does not effect the fit of the lens cap on the OTA in keeping the dust etc off the objective lens.
