Ngc 2327

First image for 2014.

Shot under challenging conditions from my suburban Melbourne backyard. 18 x10 mins. I used an IDAS LP filter but there were still some massive gradients to deal with... dunno why I do this to myself, who else is crazy enough to shoot OSC RGB from light pollutionville?

Can't help but think that how amazing this object could look in Ha under dark skies. (Sigh)

This is of course the Seagull Nebula, but I cannot fit it all in my FOV. So is it just me or does the portion showing here kinda look like Scooby Doo?

Hi Andy,

Nice image, this one is next on my list of imaging targets. LP gradients are really tough to deal with, I'll be shooting the luminance, or at least most of it through a narrowband filter, the RGB will have the dreaded gradients though.

Keep plugging away though, the experience gained will be paid back when you get the scope under dark skies.

Hi Andy,
There is certainly plenty of signal there -
enough for me to want to try this target.
It's nice & easy to find too -
so close to Sirius that a one star alignment should find it.

Thanks Allan, Yes 1 star alignment no probs. Actually I'm using Sky Safari connected to the scope via the mac laptop now and its brilliant! Even shows the FOV of my camera. Love it for planning AP targets.
Have a go, it's a pretty thing.

Gum 3

It is also known as Gum 3 and is quite impressive in H-alpha- I have data from the 1.2m AAO telescope in Coonabarabran and it is a stunning area, the nebulosity thought to be a Supernova Remnant.

Check out the H-alpha on Skyview (http://skyview.gsfc.nasa.gov/current/cgi/query.pl) for this object, center coords: 07 15 00 -11 40 00 (J2000), Image size = 600 pixels, FOV 12 degrees, Survey = SHASSA CC

Interesting post smader, a little beyond my ability to really comprehend what I was looking at, but suffice to say it's all been done before, seems there's some very clever people out there!

Thanks Ross, IMO if we all shot the same thing life would be dull. Nice to attempt some of the rarer targets, however the outcome
