Extending a cameras cable, disadvantage?

The Neximage 5 uses a Type A Standard USB to Type B Mini USB and the cable that came with it is around 1 metre long (a bit too short).

I am looking at getting a 4-5 metre cable (obviously going from the camera to my laptop so I can sit a bit of a distance away from my scope).

Are there any disadvantages in using a longer cable with these cameras in terms of capturing video?

I use a 5m cable with my DSLR with no ill effects. I say go for it.

USB 1.0 spec said 3 metres maximum length between devices
USB 2.0 (and USB 1.1) spec said 5 metres maximum length between devices

Have run USB2.0 16m many times, two Lindy 8m active cables in series.
Also 8m active + 8m hub (both powered and unpowered).
A few times to 24m with 3 cables,

Often run USB3.0 on 5m active cable to hub.

Never any problems with active cables after first loading drivers - need to plug cables into each pc port before adding any devices on the end.

Have had problems with an 1100d and two different hubs on long standard cable.

An active cable is not expensive.
