Baader Astrosolar filter

I was given some Baader Astrosolar Safety Film as a gift, along with instructions for constructing a solar filter for a telescope. I am about to construct one for my 130mm newt and would like some advice:

First, has anyone here made a solar filter from this film in the past and importantly does it do everthing it say it will - like keep you from going blind?

Second is there a preferred side of the film that has to face the sun, I can't tell from the directions.

Any general advice for assembly of the filter, I am using stiff cardboard for the collar and masks. Is there a longer lasting alternative? I found a company in Canada that makes rings to hold the film. Thanks
