That's quick , even the normal TGV on the Paris-Lyon-Nice run gets to 320+, which is fast enough!

When the TGV goes through tunnels at speed the air pressure inside the tunnel causes the train to be compressed enough to make your ears pop.
Fastest we got to was 338kmh.

I would not want to run through a tunnel at 570+

Ummmm not on an Italian train…Japanese….maybe. Actually I'm surprised it didn't break down. Everything I have had, except my all Italian Road Bike (Willier with Campy components and wheels) has broken down

Hi Ron, That's an old record; If I remember rightly, the record is much higher now.

Train travel can be really nice !

In 1989 from La Paz (Bolivia) to Arica (Chile). That line is discontinued unfortunately.
In 1998 I traveled from Arnhem (NL) to Messina (Sicilia, IT, 2 changes) 28 hours and in 2000 from Alice Springs (NT) to Adelaide (SA) 20 hours. The latter can now be continued to Darwin for another 20 hours.

I love train travel, probably because I hate flying and it's so easy and cheap in Europe.

There's no reason a trip from Adelaide to Melbourne should take 12 hours.
