Happy Thanksgiving!

Okay so I know this is not an Australian Holiday/tradition but it is here in the USA and is about my favorite holiday.

To say thanks for and acknowledge the good things (mostly family) feels like a good karmic thing to do and so I will say among the many things I am thankful for this year the family here at IIS is on my list. So to all of you I say thanks for being in my life and sharing this space with me.

As for the other Thanksgiving family traditions, the food, the parades, the football and yes now the shopping I will enjoy and be thankful for the plentiful nature of my life. I am blessed and thankful for it!

Happy Thanksgiving Scott.
Our family celebrates it here too, we have a lot to be thankful for.
And thank you for your company when we'd go observing at Kulnura, we miss that.

Seriously? That'd be like an American family celebrating Australia Day.

Yep, seriously, with two big turkeys, all the trimmings, cranberry sause, the lot.
And of course we celebrate our dear Australia day too, huge BBQ.

Like I said my family has a lot to be thankful for.

You ought to be thankful you're not American!

I've never been able to understand this America worship practiced by so many Aussies. We're so different in almost every way, and, believe me, that's a good thing for both peoples.

It's not "American worship", nor from your comments, do I think you know what the original meaning of Thanksgiving is perhaps.
And as to being thankful I'm not American, how would you presume to know, unless you know me personally, what I really am?

Seems to me Zaps that your comments are very unAustralian. We are known the world over for being open and friendly. Sometimes if you have nothing nice to say, it is better to say nothing !

Scott, Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. All the best for the Festive Season as well.

My first wife was American, and we were married for 25 years, so I had a lot to do with americans during that time.
Far from being different, we are very much alike! Both countries have similar backgrounds, and I have always found them to be very friendly and considerate people.
I see no evidence of America worship-just a nation with similar values to us.

Thanks all for the Warm wishes. Enjoyed the turkey and trimmings and closed off with pumpkin pie and phone calls to family and friends I had not spoken to in a while. It was all good...

Haha, let's focus on the joy and levity, people

The Slate had a curious take on the event, how the U.S. media would cover Thanksgiving if it were in another country.

This should please both the haters and the revellers

Cheers
Steffen.
