Gum 1 and the Seagull

For a bit of fun, I did a couple of hours on this faint emission nebula with my BabyQ/ATIK LE4000 on one pier and my 10" astrograph F3.8 with a SXVR_H16 on another - the BabyQ was using a Baader 8.5nm Ha filter and the 10" using an Astrodon 5nm. Both are roughly similar exposures (after a plane flew through a couple of each) of 8 or 10 x 10 minutes.

This nebula is pretty faint and even with nearly 2 hours, the results are still noisy. But the different image scales do produce different perspectives. The BabyQ works out at about 3.4 as/p whereas the 10"comes in at about 1.6 as/p.

I can't help feeling that Gum 1 looks more like a big old friendly dog smiling broadly.

Peter

Nice result, Peter. Are you working up to some longer exposures? I think it would be worthwhile for those NB targets.

Peter interesting, the second shot appears to have more noise than the first. Is that just the difference in the camera sensor?

No technical jargon here Peter, just very good.
I like your dog analogy.
Cheers

Well done Peter. The soaring seagull is one cool target. Enjoyed the wide field view. I'll take more of that. Cheers

Same sensor Brett. But different filters. Is it that simple?

Both great images Peter as you said a little noisy but a few more hours exposure will sort that out.

I really enjoyed these Peter. Would back up those comments that another few hours is well warranted. Perhaps even a mosaic with the Baby Q if you're really going to get carried away?

Both Nice Peter, perhaps a little longer exposure can reduce a bit of noise, never the less the vistas are very pretty!

Clear skies

Thanks everyone. It's very encouraging to read your supportive comments. Longer exposures are definitely on the cards on this one. BUT after I finish my projects on M1 and The Cone, Xmas Tree and Fox Fur nebs. Ahh - so many objects. So few clear nights.
