First light STXL6303

I took this last night. It's nothing startling - just the Tarantula but it at least indicates that the new camera is working okay.

Cheers

Steve

That's a sweet shot Steve. Lovely tight stars, lots of detail and you got the core resolved. This was with the filter wheel guiding? No AO?

Greg.

Great image & that's a nice big chip in the new camera:
27.65 x 18.48mm.

I hope to see a lot more images with it.

Thanks Greg. Yes - this is the filter wheel guiding one. Haven't set up the AO yet. The AO-X is still in the box.

Cool field of view Steve. Heaps of detail. Hmmm cannot wait for first light myself. How did you find the integrated guider? Any issues?

Thanks Ross. I hope the second light turns out as well as the first light.

Thanks Paul. I already have a STXL11002 of course which I've been using a while. The guiding seems to be okay so far.

Excellent. Noise free and dynamic range well handled. How long were the subs?.

Given you have STXL11002 and STXL6303, it would be interesting to see how they compare in Ha (you know, QE diff, NABG vs ABG etc). As in end result pic with similar total imaging time.

Thanks Fred. They were 15 minute subs. The 6303 CCD is twice as sensitive as the 11002 at Ha. However the 11002 is slightly better (50% vs 45% at OIII. I plan to do some more infrared with the 6303 as the 6303 has 30% efficiency out as far as 850nm. Each CCD has its advantages I guess. The NABG puts a lot of people off the 6303.
