RichardIII

Watching the very interesting Doco on the discovery of the remains of Richard III, it just reminded me that history is always written by the victorious....
It took the combined resources of Britain, Russia and the US....the British will, the Russian dead and the US money...just think how the history books would have read if Churchill had lost.....

yes I saw this program as well. History is indeed written by the victors, in tihs case the Tudors

There is a very good book "Dominion" by CJ Sansom that conjectures that Britain sued for peace in 1940. I read during the day it at this years SPSP. Can highly recommend.

Richard III

That place (Leicester) is where I grew up and where most of my family still live - I went back there for a wedding In Feb and took a look at the car park where they dug him up. One of the funniest things my niece said was that her friend had worked out how much he owed in car parking fines for being there that long!!
Only a Royal could afford it!
Great story though
Cheers

Interestingly the claim that Richard III suffered a deformity was considered to be Tudor propaganda but Richard's curved spine suggests in this example the victors gave a reasonably accurate account.
