Eyes of the Spider - with VLT comparison

Just playing around a bit and altered the blending mode a tad and then zoomed in on the heart of this amazing nebula - NGC 2070 and The Eyes' of the Spider - Super cluster RMC 136

Eye's of the Spider

Comparison with 8m VLT image

Worth noting that no deconvolution was used on this image, these are the stars straight off the chip

Remember this nebula is 170 000 light years away

Moon and smoke...go away

Mike,

Your images have always inspired me to improve, and this one is no exception.

WOW. One day I might get something close off the chip.

On the fire front, it is not often that we ask for clouds and rain, but this time is different.

Bring on the rain for the east coast, a good solid week and then some clear sky's for the new moon.

Cheers Guys

Justin, I am very pleased that my images inspire you, we all get inspiration from others and I am no exception, problem (well not a problem really) these days is that there are so many inspiring images out there ...good times

Now presented along side an image by the 8m VLT...this is certainly an extreme zoom

Needs some Lum to bring out the stars... but it is definitely an intricate area of nebulosity and stars, that's for sure

This is the central few light years around the Eyes of The Spider

Hmmm..might well do some more exposure now.....

Mike

Nice pic and interesting comparison with the VLT. Hopefully not much longer now before personal space telescopes will become affordable

Mike,

I really dig the comparison with the VLT! Now what could you do with 8m at your place...?

Cheers,
Mario

PS How 70's is the word "dig" - am I showing my age? Dead set!

Yes would be nice Dave, I predict true adaptive optics will eventuate for the amateur first (not just high speed guiding) ...Meade will release it I recon

Cheers Ray, with more exposure I could have done better but it was at the end of a session so no time, sure could go back to it and still might but I thought I'd capitalise on the good seeing at the time.

It is a very nice shot, without any doubt, but the resolution is not breathtaking.
A little bit of sharpening wouldn’t heart ..

CHeers Ian

Ah yes, to sharpen or not to sharpen... that is the question

...Well, I did use some selective sharpening on some of the brighter nebula areas only but with such a low integration time I couldn't really push it like I usually do

For 1120mm FL and 12" I think I would need to be up in the Andes or have collected many more hours (ala Fred) and then sharpened, to get a great improvement..

Mike
