Triffid Nebula M20

This is another example of using alt/az setup with No guiding, by using 400 subs the curved/egg shaped stars seem to round out well after stacking in DSS, I think more subs would make it better, the processing in Startools brings out some fine detail, this is also my 1st attempt at using subs at multiple iso settings.

200 x 25sec subs at iso 1600 with 50 Darks and 50 Bias
200 x 25sec subs at iso 3200 with 50 Darks and 50 Bias

12" Meade LX200 f6.3 (alt/az setup with No guiding)
Sony Nex-3 DSLR Camera
Processed with DSS,Startools,Gimp

Nice work, Wayne-your unguided multiple short subs works well!

Hi Wayne, I really like it. Beautiful colour depth and reasonably short subs too.

Great work Wayne Huge number of subs there (obviously you need this for your setup), but I was wondering how does your computer cope with stacking so many? I know that my PC takes quite a while once I start stacking 150-200 subs or more, hate to think how long 400 subs would take !!

Thanks Laurie, Pat, Jo,Mardy,Hugh,Rex and Richard

Yes Richard it takes a while to process even with my intel corei5 processor and 8gig of ram, I start it as I go to sleep and by morning all done (about 5hrs for 400subs)

If you want to take longer subs, but still stay in alt-az, you want to get yourself a field rotator. Like one of these...
