Partial Rosette in Ha

Hi,

Took this last night under a full moon with a Ha filter.

I just wanted to see what it would be like to image under a full moon. I couldn't choose targets too close as it was causing gradients.

Still need to tweak my collimation to fix the teardrop stars, but happy with the tracking and the lodestar. very reliable.

I'm so missing the real estate on the qhy8 chips. this kaf8300 chip is so much smaller. I might experiment with a focal reducer, only other option is to do mosaics which I'll attempt tonight.

Comments welcome.

Beautiful image of one of my favorite objects. I haven't imaged the rosette yet, hopefully all going well, next new moon. Well done Alistair.

Thanks Rex,

Hi Rowland, yes APS-c is perfect. very tempted to debayer a qhy8.
I'm not really looking for widefield but just a bigger FOV. I wonder if a focal reducer will work with the coma corrector.
I'm attempting a mosaic of the rosette tonight using maxim. will see how that goes. if it works, i'll attempt this again from snake valley this new moon.

Cheers
Alistair

Great image alistair, good to see everything is finally coming together. The image field is corrected quite well, atleast considering this was a rough n ready attempt.

And welcome to NB, it's great isnt

The QHY is a tempting alternative. However, the new developer version is Linux Arm, I think and a standalone camera, but it has a KAF8300. A perfect choice would be APS with all the other specs. http://qhyccd.com/en/left/qhy-intercam-series/ic8300/
