Orion Wide Field

G’day everyone,

Was able to get some subs this morning of Orion, pretty happy with how it came out.
I reckon a few more hours and this would be quite nice.

Camera: Canon 350d

Lens: Sigma 70-300 at 90mm f8, (don’t recommend using this lens for astrophotography, it’s really bad with CA even at f8!)

Subs: 38x2 min at iso 800

No darks.

Cheers
Jo

That's really very good - horsehead, flame, running man, M42, Barnard's loop - they are all there... focus and processing look great too....

Good image Jo!

Good focus, and colour balance.
Barnard's loop stands out well.

Cheers,

Justin.

Wow, very nice indeed! No CA as far as I can see. Is there is a brighter rectangular patch near Alnilam (centre star of the belt)?

Cheers,
Cam

Really nice shot Jo, I don't have the scope or stand alone camera for wide field shots so I like to look when ever the chance comes around.

Thanks

Very nice Jo. Not an easy part of the sky to image. That's a nice wide field. CA is minimal and doesn't really matter.

Take darks...

Thanks Lee, I made a quick paper Bahtinov mask last night, so that helped out with focusing. This is the first time I've been able to get Barnard's loop before.

Thanks mate Yeah I was able to clean up the CA fairly well. There seems to be a line that go's across the image just above Alnilam, don't know what it is.

Thanks Carl, the camera was attached to a tripod head that was G clamped the side of my horse shoe mount.
