Question EQ-8, equatorial head only

I was wandering, if anyone socceded in sourcing EQ-8 without tripod and counterweights?

My Newt is just a bit on a heavier side for EQ-6 (18kg) so I am considering the alternatives for the permanent setup.

So, no one tried to get mount only?
This is interesting, considering the (relative) un-portability of the EQ8

Theres only one way i can think of and that would have to be being a distributor for saxon/skywatcher/orion or knowing one very well. I doubt you would find one in Australia that would, but it would pay to ring around and ask just in case. I really don't think it would be worth it for overseas shipping by the time you factor freight and then warranty and then the price minus those parts wouldn't be more then $500 i would think.

I asked Bintel and they replied : "What are we going to do with surplus tripods?"
I asked myself the same question..

In UK, price for tripod is almost $1000, and they sell all bits separately. 1k$ is a lot of money, if it's spend for something you don't really need.
