2stroke,
I've been with them 3 years. In that time, they've had just one cyber attack, last year. Rather than try to cover it up, they immediately locked down the system, reset all passwords and informed all hosting administrators. Apart from that, I haven't noticed any downtime. I'm sure there must be some but nothing significant and nothing reported to me by users. I've had no issues with my specific server space. The only times i've had to ask for support was when I needed to ask how to do something. On these occasions, support was quick and really helpful.
Dreamhost are quite big with server farms on both east and west coasts of USA. That results in slightly slower access for Australian users and slower upload for me. I get around 4000 page downloads per day with the majority of my readers located in USA and Europe so it works ok for me. But when I say slow it's still lightning fast compared to some free servers I've used in the past.
Before that I was with a company called CBIT. They charged top dollar and gave really poor service and poor value for money. They get my strongest "avoid at all costs" advice.
