An unexpected clear night over Melbourne last night.
NGC 253, LRGB, 230, 35, 60, 60 minutes. Some of the first batch of red subs had a severe gradient in them so I discarded them, I think it was my neighbour's roof.
Enjoyed the crisp details Stuart. Shame about the gradient drama and ditching the data. Background could be cleaner with the application of flats, but hey any imaging being done in Melbourne of late is good imaging. Apparently the wettest year in the last three decades. Well done. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Jase,
I really need to take some flats, should have done it last night, but was a bit buggered. The weather of late has been almost the opposite of what I expect, cloudy days and then, just as the sun is setting, the skies have cleared. The main problem then is waiting for the scope to cool so the focus doesn't shift too much. If I had my eye on the weather earlier I would have had the fans running much earlier.
Do you think that the focus change from low temperature to ambient Melbourne would change the appearance of the dust bunnies enough to make flat application difficult?
Not bad Stu, not very big image though... Love the diffraction spikes you get there, remind me of images by the Crossley reflector at the Lick Obs
I say yep go for flats, any temp related focus shift shouldn't make too much difference and the the result with out those distracting doughnuts will be worth it

Hi Mike,
OK, I'll do some flats. Image size is very much limited by the 200k limit here. The Facebook one is bigger, but still only 70% of full resolution though. I'll put some full res pics up on my website soon as well.
