Newbies

I wonder why people who are using many thousands of dollars worth
of equipment, and a stack of software , and are doing extensive complex
image processing to produce some pretty good results are posting on the beginners' forum.
I would have thought that the technical talk, and the nice images,
would be a bit daunting to many a budding imager looking to start out in
this wonderful pastime. What do some of you think?

Hmm, I can understand what you're saying, but I can assure you, as a beginner with some gear doing images - I feel I'm nowhere near the level of output quality I see in the other image forums.

And when I was first starting out (and even now), this was a great area to come to - because it showed me what was possible for beginners to achieve.

Speaking as a newbie myself, posting in the beginner's forum is more to do with our level of expertise and experience, and less to do with the cost of our eqipment.

I have noticed that some of the images posted in this section are absolutely spectacular.
But then again I can understand that most people posting in this section probably do so because they still are trying to iron out certain processes or are just after basic advice to see if they could be doing things differently.

I feel like I don't fit in either forum. I'm not a newbie, I've been taking astro photos for over 30 years, but my equipment is very basic. Much of it is homemade. I still shoot with achro refractors, guide manually and have limited sky space. There's no way my images will ever match the top shooters. I don't have the budget for it.

here's my basic pic of the moon. phone held upto a 20mm lense on a 10" dob...actually I think it was a 15mm. I don't think ya can get more newbie than me. I don't post process or crop or anything lol ... maybe I should use deleate a lot more

I added m7 with using my phone too. I'm stoked with it ... but its not exceptional.

I want to upgrade to something like an asi120 but I dunno if it will work with my scope etc ... time to research
