How to convert DSLR video footage to single frames

Hi,

Can someone please advise as to the most straightforward method/software for converting video footage captured via a DSLR (Cannon 7D) to single frames for stacking?

Matey - having just started on this journey myself, there may be others more qualified to answer...

but i don't think you need to separate out into single frames to stack.

You just convert from .Mov to .AVI and things like registax will suck them in.

cheers,

Hi Simon,

I assume you are planning to produce a stacked planetary image?

Use Canon Zoom Browser. It should have come with the camera on the CD. If not i think you can search and download it.

Click on the file then you choose export. You can export the movie to jpg images or to avi (different movie format).

Download Registax and it will be able to read either the jpgs or the avi. I use the avi, as registax still shows the individual frames.

Perhaps search for a tutorial on registax as it is a bit long to explain here.

Sorry, did not see your question.

Yes, I intend to stack the images. I am using a canon DSLR rather than a webcam.

Get yourself a copy of the BackyardEOS application.... built for use with Canon EOS cameras.

I love it.... magical... captures video, single frames at the same time... captures the video in AVI for stacking... works with PHD auto guiding if you want to go down that path....

Highly recommended if you have an EOS camera.
