A Bug at Wallaroo

Here is a quick fire shot of the amazing little Bug Nebula in Scorpio

I am really enjoying this new Starlightxpress camera outfit and the dome (it was breezy early on but no problemo )..... and Hallelujah!! the seeing was reasonably kind to me this time narrowband filters, no darks and no flats used

Full Res Version here: A Bug at Wallaroo

Ed: I could NEVER have achieved this from my former blurry Newcastle site

Mike

As Ray said, heaps of detail Mike!

Faint outer extensions are really coming through.

Cheers,

Justin.

The NB sure does this justice. Really nice image scale - is that the full frame?

When did taking no flats become something to be happy about?

Awesome looking Bug Mike, sounds like your enjoying the new location in its entirety, kit and all ! BTW, Im looking soon to upgrade to a CCD, Single shot colour tho, the starlight seems to have an interesting design with the heat transfer out front and into the optical train, seems somewhat sleazable, Depending on ones setup, Have you found this of much benefit at all yet ?
Thanx !

Hi Ray, yes the seeing was ok but I have seen it better, even from inside the dome, just need to nail the right nights

Cheers Justin I don't think there is anything outside the extensions seen, I tried a binned shot and saw nothing when stretched...?

Hi Pete, yeah NB is good on planetary nebs and no that is not the full frame it is a significant close in crop, my full field is some 38' X 31'

It was improved detail that I was after and working toward getting out of the wind, having better seeing, smaller pixels and off-axis guide are all finally coming together .

Not needing darks and flats is a god send and saves so much time. I recognise that in theory one should still do flats regardless but having a clean optical path and a well illuminated field at this chip size seems to mean they are much less necessary...?

Hi Bob glad you like insects

Not quite sure what you are referring to about the camera there and what does "sleazable" mean?

Mike

Mike, I was reading up about your Starlight Express camera and the cooling system draws in air to transfer heat away from the chip, the Starlight design sends that warm air into the optical focus train, apparently assisting the ridding of Due, this would work well for an open focus train like a Newt and the type of scope you have, but only providing the focal train is open, so the heat can escape ?

I'm Just wondering, as with my Newt F4.7, there is in place a Coma Correcter which therefore would block the warm air from escaping, in-turn, no fresh air can enter the chip ? ? Just a thought, as you do use Filters ?
Anyway, I may have understood this concept wrong, hence why I Asked mate.
By the way, sleazable is just my quirky humour for feasible : )
Rgds .

Thanks Rolfy The new camera is a bloody breeze mate, with the off axis guide and super clean chip it is like taking candy from a baby

Hmmm? no idea really, but can't say I notice anything and I have a corrector in place, it gets to the set temperature (currently using -20C) very quickly and stays there
