12" Dobsonian Base Price Reduction!

This is a new base imported flat packed from Mark Wagner in the US. It is made from serious ply, with a beautiful pale finish, and is very solid. I have properly painted it with clear estapol, using lots on the ply edges to ensure moisture cannot penetrate.

This mount was made to suit GSO/Bintel etc tubes as used for 12" scopes.

As shown by the pictures, ebony star on teflon is used to deliver just beautiful movement. The oversize altitude bearings ensure the best possible movement. Please note that the altitude teflon pads do require recessing to correctly position the bearings.

Cost to me was over $400.00, selling for $200.00, pick up only. I live about 20min west of the Melbourne CBD. Price now $150.00!!!!!!

PM replies, please.

I am wondering how much longer my base will last. So this looks interesting. Just a few questions if I may.
- How does the tube attach? I have the older BT302 before the trunions with the friction adjustment. Does that make any difference?
- Can the tube slide up/down in the cradle for balance, and/or be rotated?

The tube attaches by drilling holes in it to match the holes in the az bearings, then bolting up the assembly. The original bearings are not used.

You will not need friction adjustment! The stiction provided by the ebony star and teflon negates the need for that.

Moving the tube for balance after fitting the alt bearings can't happen. Spending some time during set up for locating the bearings is the go. If you use both light and heavy eyepieces, I have a cunning plan to maintain balance with my Lightbridge, happy to demonstrate.
