Catching up with technology

I'm flat out catching up with technology ATM. I'm in the process of building up my new laptop. The old lappy was just getting too unreliable and frustrating. So now have a HP i7 with 17.3" screen... just working my way through installing all the software again... and doing windows updates, updates, updates, upda...

...and today my new work phone arrived: a Nokia Lumia 520 windows 8 phone. Very nice considering my old phone was a 6120 that was getting pretty damn moody (i.e. sometimes went for days without talking to me). The learning curve on the phone is pretty slight, so I'm happy with that.

I know what you mean Al.

Some days I realise that I'm so far behind in some areas I'm a Neanderthal.

Still use a Nokia N95. It has buttons and takes calls.
I don't feel pressured by technology. If it makes my life easier I use it otherwise I have no need to get the latest.

Yes. I know what you mean.

I'm only updating them both cause they were having problems, not that I felt the need to update.

I'm just about at the stage now where I'm planning to simplify my astro for a while. For the last 12 months or more I've just been doing a bit of solar when the conditions allow, so I'll probably just do that and some visual, and moth ball the spectroscope for a while. I'm enjoying my job ATM which is more technical that it used to be, so I don't have the yearning to do such technical things at home... but one day...

main selling point was it has a flashlight over a camera

Did anyone see this graphene thing and its applications on telly last night on the project? Now that's a game changer. Something to get excited about.
